diabetes in Maine Coons
At 13 my cat (neutered male) was diagnosed with diabetes and is on Lantus insulin. He also had a kidney infection which was treated, this was last Dec. 4th. He has lost a lot of weight and is thin but eats well. Anyone else had this happen?

My last cat Koda had Diabetes, Heart disease, and what really killed him was fatty liver disease(with the heart disease his heart was too weak to be put under and he couldn't be given a feeding tube to help with the liver disease due to that). It is very common for Maine Coons to have heart disease but you are the first person I've heard of other than my self to have a maine coon with diabetes. Koda was only 7 when I had to have him put down and he had heart disease since he was 3 years old and diabetes when he was 6 almost 7. I hope your cat does better than mine did.(my family had Koda since he was 3 weeks old and bottle raised him)

Our last cat Smudge, a Maine Coon cross had diabetes and Kidney problems and was on insulin.
He had the kidney problem for most of his 16 years but the diabetes only developed during his last year.
We managed the diabetes well, but unfortunately the kidney problem became too much for him at his age.
With the insulin and a controlled diet you should have no real problems. Good luck!
