Any ideas how to save my windows??

Hi..

I have run into a new problem with my beloved furball. Hank has taken to clawing at the rubber sealant around the windows in the house.

Its getting more and more frequent and I have to keep an eye and an ear on him to make sure he's not at it. Not sure if its because he's longing to go outside now the sunny days are starting to arrive or for some other reason but whatever it is I need to find some solution and quick before he pulls enough of the rubbery foam stuff out that the windows become loose.

Has anyone else come across this?

My mum in laws cats do the same and all of my cats have removed the sealant in the outside cattery pens too! Perhaps it's some kind of bid for freedom? They'll be growing opposable thumbs next!!

I'm hoping there might be some sort of smelly stuff you can safely put around the windows that isn't so strong it deters him from sitting up there, but strong enough to stop him clawing at it....

Ours don't do this regularly but sylvester took a mad leap up onto one of the higher windows, tried to grab onto the sealant then fell down again! We found one of his claws embedded in the sealant! Ow!!
Citrus is supposedly good to discourage chewing but not sure that will be any use for scratching. Adversive training might be the only thing- water gun?!

Water gun or hairdryer might work. Or citrus juice or vinegar on the forbidden area??

I'll give the vinegar ago first and see if that helps without deterring him too much from being able to go and sit/look out the window.
