Sorry, more questions / advice please

Sorry, me again with more questions. Being owned by a MC is quite different from a normal moggy!

Rather than keep starting threads, I've tried to save this all up so apologies for length and wide range of questions. As not named yet will refer to cat as cat.

    - firstly a health one as this could be serious. Since coming home on Weds cat has only had one poop and two wee's. All in litter box and I've searched all the usual places just incase (under beds, behind tv, under sofas etc) He is eating and drinking lots (see next point). My previous cat used to fill his literbox daily, and I mean fill, so should I be worried? At vets Weds and will mention but your thoughts please?

    - cat is very underweight for a MC, just under 2kg (1.5 when i got him) for a 7 year old male. I know I am probably making a rod for my own back but am currently feeding him on demand to try and build him up. He is currently eating 2 tins of cat food, a dog bowl of dry food and a chicken breast or piece of fish a DAY! Should I be worried about this or should I just let him get up to near normal weight and then start restricting food / introducing feeding routine?

    - cat has not meowed yet? I know MCs are quiet but?

    - cat has an attitude. Don't think he has had much affection, so starts off very loving and wanting attention then suddenly turns on you, falls asleep then wants fuss again. Is this normal MC behaviour or is he on as nuch of a learning curb as me?

    - is it normal for MCs to like water? Cat is obsessed with it! He even got in the bath with me and purred loudly while playing with the bubbles. He has a thing about sleeping in the sink, bath, shower. I remember having to bath my last moggy when he played in fox poop and that was not easy (4 stitches in finger after lol)

    - crate / travel box. Went to buy a catbox today as groomers / vet appts this week, and sales assistant insisted that I needed a small dog carrier for a MC. Is this the proper size to buy?

    - cat flap? Ok so when cat gets to normal weight there is no way he is gonna fit through my cat flap. Can anyone suggest a larger cat flap that still has the magnetic key thingy that has a collar to fit cat? Dog flaps had massive collars

    - other pets? I have a couple of snakes in vivs and none of my other cats have ever taken much notice of them but this cat seems drawn to them. Would you suggest water spray bottle, NO, remove and ignore to stop him tormenting them?

Again apologies for asking so many questions but really just want to treat cat right and first non moggy I have ever had. My beloved 16 year old Samoyed died last year and I have feeling cat is going to need as much work and stimulation as she did.

LOL whilst typing this thread the furball has shreded my horrid socks that I wore to work today. . And has taken possession of my face flannel and is not giving it up.

    Photos weds I promise x

The litter tray habbits seem to vary with our lot. Pretty much all of them did not use the tray for the first day. Could be nerves or tension. Once settled in each of them has different "requirements" The girls seem to pee very frequently and the 4 year old retiree sometimes only goes to poop every other day (BIG jobs when he does this!)
Food wise they all eat very differently and quantity wise. The one girl and the retiree eat very little where as the 2 kittens will eat all day if we let them, the other boy eats "normal".
Vocally it is the same, the one boy meow, chirps, howls all day! The others are sometimes silent for days on end then very vocal.
We use a standard cat carrier for the kittens and dog carriers for the big ones.
The cat flap going out to the cat run is a "dog" flap, but no lock fitted.
All of our love water and I have had them jump in the bath and shower with me! They also like to play / sleep in the bath when it is empty. The one likes to have the tap running to play with.
Attitude! They all have that!! Some of them love to be picked up and fussed, 2 of them dont. The one girl will lay on my lap for hours but will not go near my wife.

    Hope these few answers help.

    Talking

    Hello
Your cat sounds perfectly normal to me!!

We have 2 boys and a girl, both boys call a lot, trilling and chirping, our girl is preety much silent.

Toilet habits - as someone else said, it takes them a few days to settle in and the lack of poop is a sign of that. If he is underweight, his body is absorbing most so he should go again very soon. Wees - one of my other cats just wees once a day, so as long as he is drinking and you dont notice he is getting a pot bloated belly its fine.

Food - all ours are fed as they want, we only feed biscuit, Royal Canin Fit 32, and its left down all the time. Cats are grazers. I would only feed what you want him to have but just give him a lot of it, dont introduce foods you dont want him to have in the long run.

Carriers - you can get really big ones.

Catflap - we dont let ours out. Coonies are not good with roads, and dont have much road sense. I know some get let out, you have to judge your coonie yourself. Also they are not like normal cats and run from people, in fact mine tend to come and sit and look at new people, and they run to answer the door with the dog!

Attitude or catitude, yep they have it. My boys demand cuddles in the morning and will get on my lap. My girl will snuggle up next to me but try and cuddle her and she tells you to get lost - saying that she is as affectionate as can be but doesnt like being held much.

Just keep doing what you are doing, a daily brush/comb, lots of attention. Talk to him constantly and think of a name for him soon - even if its what you call him - sweetpea, sugar, darling etc. Get him to know his name so you can call him - definately before you think of letting him out.

Good luck and dont worry about any more questions coonies are different! I have never had cats that wash me like a dog before but they do lol.

    Hugs
    Ruth

Can't add much to above & I also don't allow any of my MC's into the outside world, only into a safeproof garden & pen, but if that is what you want to do I would suggest getting him microchipped & getting the flap that you program to allow only him through, collars are dangerous things on their own on cats, have seen lots of nasty accidents including deaths through them at work.
Hope "cat" soon gets a name,we took on a stray moggy years ago & I didn't want to raise daughters hopes that we would keep it if the owner wasn't found so I told daughter we were looking after it for a couple of weeks while the people were away & of course then got the obvious question "Whats its name",sugar, hadn't thought that one out so off of top of head said Pusskins, she went to her little grave with that name, wouldn't answer to anything else when we decided that she wasn't going to be claimed, seemed to suit her though...!

Thank you all so much. Cat now has name Buddy!

Taking on board that most of your cats don't go out we are securing a section of the garden for Buddy to keep him safe at least until I get to know him properly.

Food wise, I will continue to give him tin morning and evening and leave dry food down all the time. Will continue with fresh chicken etc until weight up and then use as treats in smaller amounts. He used litterbox overnight, and boy did he use it, so think you were all right in him just settling in. I did move the litterbox to give Buddy more privacy.

Have decided to buy the dog carrier as before his previous owner became ill Buddy was 9kg. He is 40 inches nose to end of tail. Took me nearly an hour to measure him as he thought tape measure was a toy. He is starting to play now, bit like an overgrown kitten. Off out to buy him some more toys today.

Glad things are smoothing out for you...and I love the name Buddy.
We all seem to try so hard to do what is best and I found just relaxing a bit helped.
Paris poops every other day, and pees one to two times a day, her back up bowl is dry food, and she has one small can of wet food a day. And just a few cat treats a day from my husband.
    You're doing good.
One little tid bit, when the door bell rings, Paris runs to the door and then hisses at who ever it is....I guess, instead of barking. It's funny.
