Have a poorly kitty on my hands - any advice??
Buddy is poorly :( He went out this morning (I know the risks but posted about it before so not after advice about that) came back his normal 4 hours later and really didn't seem himself. I put food down and he ignored it - not like him at all. He kept trying to hide, behind doors etc. He then came in the kitchen and vomited violently again and again and again. He went in litter box and produced brown smelly water several times and it stinks. Sorry if this is yuk but he threw up cat food undigested. He has real health issues which is why I don't give him processed food so can only assume that when he goes missing his is loving it up with someone else who thinks they are helping. I can't get him to wear a collar, although his feeding problems are on microchip.
He is lying in the kitchen sink at the moment with the cold tap running so he has easy access to water. I've taken away all his food which I find cruel but needs must.
How long do I leave him before I offer food again? And should I offer some steamed chicken / fish or raw??

If he were mine i would be taking him to the vets tomorrow i think. Maybe you could starve him till tomorrow morning then offer something like plain boiled chicken and rice?
If he refuses that or is still noticably off colour then see the vet.
Sorry i dont know what his previous history is, but he sounds like a pertty poorly pussy cat tonight.
Everything crossed for you that he is better by morning.xx

He sounds exactly like Bruce when he is on the way to chucking up a furball,we get the vomit of undigested food followed by the horrible stinky brown stuff & then if we are lucky a nice fur ball & it completely wipes him out for 48hrs.... but if mate Buddy normally throws furballs with no problems it could have been something he ate,if he seems better in himself this AM would with hold food for 24hrs & then start off again with a little cooked chicken & build him up again to normal diet but I know where you will be off too if you are still really worried, fingers crossed for you both & a big kiss for him x

A cat must eat... a dog you can hold for 24 hours from food. A cat you can not do that with...he gets problems with his liver than ( can not explain that good in english ).
My advice, go to the vet...and keep your cat inside.

How is Buddy this morning ? White fish or plain chicken after some starving (but always water available) has worked with my previous cats and my new boys, but they've been quite good generally.

How is he this morning? If no better straight to vets. If better fish is easier to digest than chicken, cook some rice and when warm whisk an egg into it and then just feed very little and often with the fish. He may be a bit dehydrated so to encourage him to drink (and this is only in emergancys) a warmish bowl of water with a dash of milk it to encourage them to drink more than normal.
When they go out they can catch mice that are poisened and yes eat from other cats bowls. We have a tortie who self feeds - she is over weight but not from what she gets here, she catches and eats mice and birds and we know she goes into our neighbours and eats their cats food as well - good job we are all friends!
Anyhows hope he is better.

After a very sleepless night with Buddy I took him to the Vets this morning as he was just lying still mumbling away to himself. They kept him in an put him on a drip as a precaution due to his kidney problems. Three hours later I got a phone call from one of the nurses to say i should go over straight away as he was gagging and his breathing was strange. Panic struck and rushed over there just in time to witness Buddy producing the biggest fur log I have ever seen and the smell! Cleared the room in seconds. The Vet checked him over again and said that the size of the fur ball had probably been causing problems coming through (why call it a ball? This thing was about 6 inches long and about 2 across).
Buddy is home now curled up on the sofa next to me. He's had a spoonful of steamed cod, which the Vet said to give him every hour. I've got to make sure he keeps drinking and don't know whether the Vet was having a dig that I baby my cat too much but he said to use a feeding bottle if he won't use a bowl. I did explain that he doesn't use a bowl, just the sink but just got a strange look and raised eyebrows.
If he manages to keep the fish down, he is obviously hungry and I had to make him eat slowly, I will try the rice and egg tonight.
Thank you all x

Fur balls can be one of the biggest problems going,Bruce says he sends his sympathy to Buddy as he does know exactly how he feels as I said in earlier post it wipes him right out for 48hrs,no way will he eat anything , his weight drops right off in front of you, then his coat goes all that standing on end & dull looking, have got so used to it I don't panic anymore. Now Buddy has managed to hike that up once his stomach doesn't feel so sore he will soon be a happy pussy again. I have found using the RC hairball has helped mine,it doesn't prevent them but does seem to make the furball more compact & easier to bring up {not that Bruce would agree with the easier bit}.He is quiet today so seeing Welly & Shimba have produced over the wekend wouldn't be all all surprised if that is what is about to happen with him,oh joy !
Another kiss & cuddle for him...xxx
