Female weight @ 9 months
Hi all,
I know there is tons of weight posts and charts and all sorts but i didn't really know where to start!
Ive just weighed Sookie, she will be 9 months on the 2nd September. She weighed 4.8kg. Is this about right? ( i know it varies but want to check it is in the right range....?)
She eats like horse and i don't want her to get porky, but i know MC's are large
I want to take her to the vet to get weighed properly but dont want him telling me she is overweight if he's not got much experience with the breed.
Thanks Laura & SookLaura, Sam and Sookie!

I am more used to boys but Sookie sounds a good weight to me for her age, mostly at that age they don't have time to get fat because they are so busy.I have always found that mine eat for England to start with & then as they mature the appetites seem to drop a bit {not on all of them though}.
Have you looked up the thread on here "Weight comparrison list" because on 17th July Walter done an update on it & there is a lot of members girls on there so perhaps you can have a quick look at that one & compare.
Fingers crossed you get a vet that knows & understands the breed, good luck let us know how you get on...x

Ha! Ha! When I go to the vet and he weighs Riley, he just laughs! 9kg and I struggle to lift him up (he's 4). In contrast my other 4 year old boy is only about 5kg but very active so just doesn't really put weight on. They all vary. Does she look a healthy weight to you? Don't forget she's still growing and will probably continue to grow for a while yet

Hi Laura,
Interesting to read your post. I'm a new Maine Coon owner - and have an 8 month old boy. He eats so much, and in between meals is forever searching for his food box. Although he's a month younger than yours he's already 6.8 KG. I'm wondering whether that's too much for his age. But it is so difficult to gauge whether he's still growing in size or simply becoming plumper. Another question for the vet..

I don't know for sure what she weighed at 9 months, but Roxy was 8.5 pounds at 8 months. I think she maybe was 9 pounds at 9 months?

It's a very good weight for a female at this age.
Nothing wrong with it.

Cool, thanks guys!
She is such a pig she loves her food And just seems to have grown suddenly. Her paws are like dinner plates lol!
My vet is great don't get me wrong, but has a bee in his bonnet about weight. I'll let you know what he says when i do take her.
Thanks again xxxLaura, Sam and Sookie!

Roxy was 4.5kg when I weighed her last month and she has gained since then so must be around 4.8-5kg now (batteries in the scales need replacing so no new readings). She does look big and has an insatiable appetite, but she is running around all the time, playing and being very active, so I am not worried - MC are a big breed, so I think Sookie sounds about right.
