Hi All,
I've recently moved my flluffies onto RC MC 31. Moshi, my eldest, has lost weight since switching over. Anyone else had this happen? She appears to be eating ok, is a little ambivalent to her wet food since moving, but is eating it (just not with the same gusto as before). Will this sort itself out because it's just because of the change, or should I put her back onto the kitten food?
All help and advice appreciated!!

Kitten food is very very rich & high in protein to help with the growing process it also has added ingredients to make it tasty to encourage eating so going onto adult food can sometimes knock them back a bit,it is also a lot more filling so she wouldn't want to eat so much & because of not being so rich etc could loose a bit of weight,I always had mine changed over onto adult food a lot younger than Moshi but they were all fine,did you do it gradually or just swop straight over,you could always add just a little of her kitten amoungst it if you are really worried but at this point I wouldn't be,I think she will soon be back to growing again....x
I switched them both over in about a week - it was very easy (which concerned me lol!). She seems to be eating and she's doing her business every day as per usual and it looks fine. She's her usual energetic and chatty self. She's just lost a couple of pounds and looks a little thin. Typical worried mummy syndrome! Of course I'm comparing her to the boy, who is getting bigger by the day! Every time I think he's grown into his paws, they grow again lol!
I'll keep an eye on her and maybe give her some of her kitten dry at the same time. Maybe I'll try her on some different wet food too, see if that floats her boat!

Which food were you feeding before? Do you know what the protein level and calories were for it?
Maybe switch them to a higher protein food? Royal Canin is not the best quality either, it has a lot of fillers like corn and wheat (cats don't need grains).
If you don't already, maybe you can add some canned food to the diet?
Don't forget she is also still at an age where she will have growing spurts, I have had two of mine always loose a good bit of weight when they done that & then off they would go again playing catch up & put on,could be that both coincided with each other,she sounds a happy healthy girl so just go with it....xQuote:

Thanks for all the advice peeps. I think it was something to do with the unexpected warm weather here in the UK. She actually stopped eating her wet food completely for a couple of days, but now it's back to being typical British weather, she's stuffing her face well and truly.
She's still a happy, bouncy girl, so I'll just keep an eye and give her a weigh in a week or so.
As for her getting longer ... she's already really long! Now I'm just waiting for her to fill out ;-)

If Moshi is anything like my Bruce you will be waiting a long time,tall,long,very lean, a magnificent full tail that waves at full mast & a swaying walk to die for, but fill out,no way...x
I think you're right there! Bruce sounds just like Moshi ... especially the full mast tail, long and lean, but she most definitely sashays her way around the place ... she's a typical female hehe ;-) xx
