Thread: Microchip migrating?

We have found that a lot of the older style chips migrated but seem to be a lot better nowadays, the two differnt types we have all been the same size though so have you got one that carries more information on it as it is a larger one..? Wonder if it is to do with it having been placed on the shoulder blade,the movement of the leg could have caused it to migrate,if it had been placed between the shoulder blades there should not have been a problem,we always tell people not to touch the spot where the chip has been placed for at least 48hrs to give the flesh time to incase round & help stop it moving.We have had them come in though with the chips in all weird & wonderful parts of the body,some times takes us longer to find the chip to check than the rest of the consult but luckily the worst migrated ones have not been put in by our vets,not to say they are perfect all the time though.... It shouldn't cause a problem though or stop it being found & the worse happen if your cat is unlucky enough to go astray. The couple of times we have had to implant again have been when the owners wanted to use the cat flaps that are activated by the chip,luckily those cats both came ready done from a rescue centre.
Although his chip is dead centre because he is such a slim cat I can always feel Bruces chip,as you say not very nice....

I spoke to the vet nurse at my local vet this morning and she also said the microchips sometimes end up in the strangest places. She said it's nothing to worry about unless it starts to grow a lump or make the cat sick. She said when he grows some more it will find a place to settle. I hope so! I don't like it being where I can feel it :(
