How lovely! Yep I have to agree, since owning Hank we seem more happier, he cheers us up with his ways. Never fails to make us laugh in the evening when he's doing all his goofy stuff. He certainly tells us when he wants something or when he's not happy. I swear he even says hello when entering a room.

It was very similar to this coonie.

Oh the joy of owning a Maine Coon
That's not an MC chirrup, I'm afraid.

My Birman does exactly that out of frustration if he can see a bird or toy he can't get.

I told Sebastian about your kitchen sink and he insisted that this was not FAIR and he wants a permanent dripping faucet as well - NOW!! Chirp chirp ----- that is what he says as soon as there is a running tap anywhere to be heard.
When he weows it's so funny cause he brings forth this meager high pitched miauw - comming from this big guy is soooo funny and unexpected. He does hiss quite often out of frustration, more than any cat I ever had or had. Other than that he has a few more sounds something like a grrrp. Sadly he is not as vocal anymore as he was when he was younger. Now with the girls around he is much too busy and gotten, as it seems, "serious".

The chattering sound is not unique to MCs, though they seem particularly likely to do it. I have read that it is a sign of frustration. All four of ours do this while watching birds and squirrels. You can see an african wildcat do it in this video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAuxbhee7es]YouTube - Young & Wild - At Play - African Wild Cat - Kittens Learn To Hunt[/ame]
Look at time 1:35. They do not have the sound of the cat, but you can see the distinctive mouth movements of the chattering.

The other day our big male was in one of the bird watching spots but there were no birds right then. I asked him, "where are the birdies Remy?" He chattered.

Sarah has quite a few sounds - she "screams" loudly when things are not going her way - eg when Timmy is on my lap and she wants to be. She also chirps back to me in the mornings when I am getting ready to go to work and we have quite the conversation ( no idea what it is she is saying). She also makes trill sounds when she is happy and playful.

A lot of Maine Coon sites say that these cats are not lap cats but Sarah is constantly on my lap. Do your cats sit on your laps too?

Well Harry certainly does, but normally on your lap isn't close enough to you. he has to be up near your face for some strange reason ?

That's more like it. Played that & the guys came running in to see who it was!!!

My girl was most certainly NOT a lap cat until she was spayed. Now she loves it more than my lapdog.
