Aging Maine Coon male cat
My 15 year old male cat is losing weight and not eating much. A trip to the vet 3 weeks ago for laryngitis, his heart, lungs and body temperature were normal. He was given antibiotics and he bounced back to being his normal self. But now he is not eating much again. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum purrfect79. Sorry to hear that your MC is a little off his food, though I cannot really advice you about this as I'm not an 'expert' yet, Im sure some of our members can shed light on why your MC is not eating.
It would also be lovely if you can introduce yourself on our 'Introductions' thread, so we can know a little more about you and your lovely catAdd me on Facebook : Ria Brown

Sorry to hear your coonie isn't eating that well.
Hopefully some of our more experienced owners will be able to help!

Have you checked inside his mouth to make sure he has no bad teeth or sores this could be stopping him from eating.

We had this with our 10 year old persian, she wasn't eating or drinking, took her to vets, they kept her in and did bloods and put her on a drip, checked her teeth etc. No idea what it was, they sent her home so she could be in a more happy environment, lo and behold the next day her bottom tooth fell out, she started drinking again and now eats like a horse- only wet food though- she never went back to dry food.
Not sure how the vets missed the bad tooth..
Hope you get it sorted, 15 is a good age!
(On a side note, when she had not eaten for a week, we thought she was going to leave us, so we started talking about getting another cat- an MC, if she did go, anyway, the other cat got better but we still took plunge and went on a MC kitten hunt, a month later we were picking Lily up )

Hi
any news - how is the patient?
Did you have any nlood work done? Can you give more info as to how much your cat drinks? Has anything changed in his routine of life?
My thoughts travel to kidney trouble. How is his mouth? Has he eaten at all? Is he dehydrated (sticky saliva, ruff will not smooth out after being pulled up) - if so can you give fluids? (Ringers' solution 100 ml, lightly warm) subcutaneous. Neurobion shots will also stimulate the appitite - BUT you need to have some blood work done - at least the Kreatinine (kidneys)
Otherwise give him some Felovite Vitamin paste with Taurine and his most favorite food. (If it is kidney problem you need to feed however only chicken or white fish with enriched white rice, Vitamin C, B and A & D - no red meats. Reason you want to feed a low / high quality protein diet). Oh and I forgot -
It could also be a hair ball or feline constipation - quite common in elderly cats.
