Where has his fluffy tail gone?

So this morning before I got up, my solid white Herbie disgraced himself by doing a runny poop (sorry) and leaving some stuck to his britches, and then waving the end of his tail in it. Gross. He was running around the garden like a nutter trying to get away from the smell. Which is what I felt like doing. So I ran a sinkfull of warm water and dunked his whole back end in it. It was a 2-man job with the OH and Herb wasn't too happy about it. His beautiful bushy tail shrank to a pipe cleaner. I dried him off with a towel and went to work.

Thing is, now his tail is dry, it's not nearly as bushy as it was before. Will it come back? Hoping some expert groomers out there can advise. :smile:

I'm sure the pros will respond. I'm not an expert, but encountered the same issue when Whiskey did the same stinky messy thing to his britches & tail. I was able to bring Whiskey's tail and britches back to full fluffiness by brushing them out with a wire brush after they were completely dry. Then to fluff & soften I brushed him out with a boar-hair brush. I find the boar-hair brush really fluffs out his tail.

Yep CatsMom is right it will all come back,never try to brush it up while damp I always leave my lots tails until the next day after a show bath,don't use a comb as that can strip the tail out & yep the wire slicker brings them up great & my back up to finish off on show days is a soft bristled baby brush.......x

PS Sorry still smiling at the thought of a poo tail waving around & wondering what was actually said by mum bet it wasn't just " Oh s**t"....!

it does come back , we were told to use hair moose and back comb while blow drying ... as the boys not overly impressed with the drying bit left til the following day and back combed with slicker brush ( the things the poor boys have to put up with to be shown )

Thats a new one on me back combing their tails I always relied on grooming powder to make them look fuller,might try it out on Shimba,won't tell him though...!

The poo trail around the kitchen wasn't too great on a Monday morning either.

Been fine since. Must have eaten a blowfly.

Cornstarch! Rub it in and immediately brush out again. :)

Poo waving tails are not funny!!! I've have at least 3 in the last week and my girl who is on antibiotics isn't the culprit. the other 2 little rascals got into the dog treats and suffered for it. I've never seen such a mess - covered, all over britches and tail tip like a flag...so they had to have a bath and left to dry, both tails are ok. I left them to dry thoroughly then a quick brush with the slicker.
