how old to neuter

i asked my vet yesterday on neutering ronnie she told me 6mnths? so how do breeders get theres sorted well before then? do i have the right to tell my vet i want it done sooner than 6mnths? he is 9weeks at the moment and the vet only felt one testical so she also wants to see if the other one drops could tis be the reason for the 6mnths?
we do go back on thursday to start his jabs i may have to write these questions down as i always forget when i get there what i wanted to ask..lol..
