Making friends
How do I go about helping my older cat (not Maine Coon) accepts Max, my Maine Coon? Max is now 5 and a half months and Piatti is about 5 years old. She, Piatti ignores Max completely when he wants to play. When Max tries to play she just gives him a slap and walks away. It is heartbreaking to watch Max trying to play with her. I'm thinking of getting another Maine Coon but my husband doesn't want another cat. We tried giving her more attention but it still looks like she is irritated with Max.
A friend suggested using pheromones to get her to like Max, what do you suggest I do?
I would appreciate your commends.

I think you have got the right idea, another babe needed......!
At five years old Piatti most probaly thinks its below her dignity to play with a youngster & who can blame her.
I can't see where using pheromones would help in this situation,it is normally for anti-social behaviour & Piatti isn't showing that just dis interest.Have you tried the feather stick to see if you can get them both playing together, how are they with catnip toys...? Some cats go hyper where as others will drool & get excited but don't seem to mind if another invades the territory to play, failing getting them both together or no third furry then its down to mum & dad to be the play partner, see if you can get Max to play fetch, although the human side seems to tire quicker it will help also wear the babe out,eventually....! x

My old cat ignores the MC but the dog likes him a lot.So we don't have a problem.
