They stay as silky soft as they were

They do change but still stay soft, does that sound stupid...? The undercoat they get as they mature keeps them feeling lovely & soft but the top coat can take on a slightly different texture,I find my silvers take on a silky feel,my red has a slightly harsher feel to him but the others have a soft cotton wool feel to the touch but they are all still very cuddly....x
Thanks for that nice to know. deovolens what a lovely coloured kitty in your pic!!!
I have a variety of coats on my cats. My big neutered boy has quite coarse feeling guard hair, but his bib and tummy are super soft. At the opposite end of the scale, one of my girls' fur has much less volume and feels like silk (she is sleek and slippery too), other girls are fluffier making them look rounder, and their coats vary in bulk and softness. I have two sets of sisters, and their coats are different, all of them are lovely to stroke though.
Yes, individual cats are different. My silver tabby girl Minnie has very long fur that is softer than silk. My black smoke boy Monty has a thick, long and rather coarse feeling coat. My torbie girl Tatja's fur is rather short and feels somewhat less silky than Minnie's.
Do take care to get him used to regular combing/brushing. If you leave it for too long grooming can become something of a struggle, as I have noticed.:grr:
We started the day he came home he is so placid he's let me brush and comb him, clean his dirty nose and clip his claws, he is such a little darling ;))
