Our 11 year old Maine Coon was constipated so my wife gave him 1 tea spoon of mineral oil.
Worked great, however he now has had 4 days of diarrhea

This question may be for the cat experts.
As I'm a new cat owner I havn't had any experience with diarrhea so far though some of his big jobs were on the "soft side"
Hopefully some experienced cat owners can give you the advise you need!

Diarrhoea can be a horrible thing to get rid of. Most importantly you need to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated and that he is drinking plenty - he should be drinking more than usual with diarrhoea. The best thing to do really is starve him for 24hrs - I know this is really hard, especially when they are crying for food but it's the only sure way of making his tummy settle. The next day he should be introduced to some plain white rice or potato - maybe adding a small amount of white fish or chicken. I wouldn't give him much else until you see his poo is at least slightly formed. If in doubt take him to your vet as diarrhoea can be serious in young or small animals. I know my vet would insist I starve him for 24hrs - he gets cross if I pull a face Good luck.

    Re: Diarrhoea

Good advice 24 hr starvation & plenty of fluids, then kick off with a really light diet fish etc.Quite surprised you got such a good....!!!! response from mineral oil as normally the only thing that eases constipation is good old liquid parraffin, most other oils get absorbed but LP eases things through. If it carries on though I would get the cat checked out just in case it is a bit of a "Red Herring" with the mineral oil.
Don't we have one of the best breeds when it comes to dirty trousers, bless them .
Hope things soon improve for you all.
