Blimey that was a bad day......
We gave up on GCCF a long while ago, when we first started showing Merlyn there were only a few judges opened minded because he was a mackerel pattern, they weren't really recognised then like they are now which is brilliant, plus he hated being got out of cages by strangers & we also hated leaving him,was going to give up showing altogether when friends said try showing him with Felis Britannica, did do TICA once but that was too busy for him although the judges got him out of the pens ok {will try it one day with Ruby though as it is great fun} but FB was right down his street, laid back & again unless he reached Best in Show line up was always handled by me & we were with him all day.
I do know some are difficult to say what colour they are,I have a friend who has one that they say the front is one colour & the back end another......she has had him colour assesed no end of times but he is plodding through at the colour she originally registered him under, all good fun, good luck with the TICA & may meet you & Amber Miracle one day....xxx

Oh forgot to mention that she came 3rd in the Debutante class, so there's no consistancy at all as far as I can see. Surely she should have been disqualified from that class too (seeing as she was registered incorrectly).

Hi Donnad, She looks like a Red Classic tabby to me. It should have the colour on her registration paperwork. She's a real cutie x

Thank you! She is our little princess and we adore her! I did not think to look at the papers they gave me, as I am not going to show her, just love her. She is a great addition to our family and gives us endless amounts of joy =^..^=

Question about colour coding-sany0001.jpgBased on the color definitions I guess Ran-Gan must be a 'Classic Tabby'. Does a beige or amber colored belly fit that description? The Amber/beige color does not show well in this photo but it's there.

I would say that Ran-Gan is a mackerel tabby as his lines run vertically down his sides, whereas classic tabby markings are more swirled. He looks very similar to my boy Oberon, who is a brown mackerel tabby with white. The belly colour doesn't make any difference to the classic or mackerel classification. Check out the Maine Coon Cat Club website where they have lots of photos of different colours and markings.
