    Separation anxiety?

I think we have a big problem.
our back garden has been cat-proofed and Sid appears to love it outside, he wakes me up early every morning to be let out and can be reluctant to come in at bedtime. So, we had no worries about leaving him out during the day, with food, water and a little house, whilst we are at work.

However, I have just been told by my neighbour that he has taken to sitting by the door and howling for HOURS whilst we are out. He also sits by the fence "talking" to them and getting increasingly upset because he can't reach them

    What do we do?

We could make a hole in the wall and put in a cat flap for him, so he can come indoors.
we could keep him in all day and just let him out in the evenings (but this results in a very "lively" cat at bedtime)
We could get him some company (the guinea pigs are clearly not enough!) - another MC kitten?

My husband is not keen on any of these suggestions - what do you peeps think?
