regarding Ran-Gan => I'm not a vet, I'm a big fan of Google.... ;-)
here is a website that seems to say it all

try taking away the dry food for a while - wet food only - he needs to stay hydrated.
and also make sure that his litter is always skweeky clean - I know, it sounds obvious and no offense intended, but I'm a bad mum I tend to leave the litter changing to "tomorrow" and sometimes the litter goes a week without being changed - if you're anything like me, just while Ran-Gan recovers, I would preconize changing it every day.......
Also, my Neevie likes some meats like cooked chicken or raw salmon - she doesn't like trout or any other kind of fish -that I have noticed- and she doesn't seem to like duck or beef either, only chicken and salmon - what I'm trying to say is may be try finding out what Ran-Gan likes - not out of wet or dry cat food but out of your fridge... because that website says a meat based diet is good for what he has. I give it as a treat because honestly I have a day job....
