I used to have rats as well. They were great pets for the kids when they were young. Very very affectionate and personality. I would love another one but I have a Mexican Black King Snake and a Python who would eat it.
In the past I've had shetland ponies, chickens, various moggys, dogs, african snails, cockertiels, various fish and the best guard dogs ever - a pair of geese.
I am not pet mad, much.

I have decided definitely no more ratties for a long time. They just wouldn't get the attention they needed with the kids, dog and coonie.
I do however now have a Tarantula, Scorpion, some stick insects and some horsehead grasshoppers! All great pets who need minimal attention. lol

...well.... they're not furry, but they're exotics... I have 10 snakes (one couple adults ball pythons, 5 sub-adults, one morelia spilota cheynei and one lamprophis fuliginosus) and 7 crested geckos (3 adults and 4 babies.... 4 eggs and I think mommy will give me some more soon..)
