Home made Cat Tree
lo everyone ,
So after showing the hubby lots of different cat trees available to buy and him tutting and shaking his head at them all he disappeared into the garage for a couple of days like a scetch out of the nutty professor or for those old enough to remember rubarb & custard and rolled a cat tree into the house with the comment she wont break this in a hurry ,so i thought i would post some pics of what the clever little git built

I really like that. It's impressive and looks sturdy. One comment though; On mine the top shelf has a 2-inch carpeted lip around 3 sides to avoid snooze and roll... but it depends on how your cat sleeps I may be inspired enough to build them an outdoor one this spring.

Ok here goes with the technical bit which he has written down for me hope i get this right
The base and perch's are made from 3/4 inch marine ply which he says is very strong
The poles are 3x3 inch solid wood posts with a high density 5mm thick cardboard tubeing 140mm in diameter slipped over the post (a snug fit he say's) & can be easily removed & changed if needed for new 1's if any wear & tear occurs (but he say's that in his opinion there is no reason why they shouldn't outlive the cats life) the same with the perch's ,or if you wanted to alter the setup
The wooden posts are chemical resin fixed to the base using a 16mm bolt & the base is mounted on castors for easy movement
The front posts are covered in 10mm thick sisal rope which is thicker than normal but will hold up a lot better for coonies
The back posts are covered in carpet ,glued and fixed
The perch's are covered in an industrial carpet the same as is used in the footwells/floor of cars and again is glued and fixed
All i can say is our lil girl loves it ,she bolts up the posts like its a tree ,he is making some toys at present to hang off the perch's he calls them monkeys fist's and are some kind of ball is all he is saying :P
As for the falling off when asleep ,she hasn't yet ,the top perch where she mostly sleeps is very big and would possibly sleep 2 or 3 coonies to be honest
He has said if there is enough interest he would possibly make them to order, but would need to draw up assembly instructions & make it minimal assembly for people also flat pack for transit
I'll try and take a video of willow playing on it so you can get a better idea of size etc ,it is very big and very heavy is all i can say & in his words "A 5 year old child could climb on it all day and it wouldnt break"
Hope this helps
