Thanks for everyone's contibutions - my shopping list for the February arrivals is growing.
A little further advice though; My last cats were grown rescue moggies and behaved very well with furniture so I only had the basic "Argos" scratching posts and the house was only partly carpeted then.
For three MC kittens and a fully carpeted house now should I aim to have maybe one big tree next to the big French Doors facing the garden and then just some posts in the other rooms to distract them from the furniture or should I have a smaller tree/bed in some of the other rooms ? This is for a basic three bed semi...
I'd definitely get more trees for the other rooms as well. Not only for scratching but also because they like to sit on high places.
Barrels are quite good too. We have one of these - only Tatja & El Monto have managed to tip it over so we'll have to find a way to prevent that.
To protect your carpet scratching mats - or any rough doormat - might help. But there's no guarantee... our three still prefer the carpet in the bedroom. :hmm:
Our original climber needed a companion when we got Gandalf and Theodore which stood next to eachother and allowed the boys to stretch across both as one just wasn't big enough. I bought another from Zooplus (the model is called Luxor) for the kittens and this one is very big and stable although I know there are others with thicker posts and are more ideal for MCs, just not in my price range. This particular one is good because it can be built so it's wide but also if you want it in a corner, it will fold in. I'd recommend Zooplus for most things apart from they're not the fastest with deliverying though usually just after a week from the order date.
I liked scratching posts of two companies:
- "Rufi" -cheaper (but you need to add quite a high cost of delivery as they are from Poland)- Drapaki.pl - "Rekreacja-Rufi"
- "Tigga Towers" (based in UK)- Tigga Towers Cat Scratching Posts
In both companies, you can order a scratching post by your own design.
Perhaps will have to speak with Sam,could this be another opening for TT,it may be expensive but well worth the money,any others I have had in the past soon started to show signs of wear & tear 18 months down the line but not this one & thats with two more big boys added in to what the other trees have had to cope with plus the bedding that goes on them washes well too,I have got another set to put on at xmas,have been managing with the one set but now its harder getting things dry thought it was time to indulge again,the lower basket has a round bed to go in it this time instead of a cushion,hope Pansy P will be impressed...!Quote:

I'm toying with the idea as it looks pretty solid, offers flexibility and you can replace parts rather than the whole thing.
The only thing that I have found to stand up to the MC's is the Tigga Tower,anything that has had the soft fabric on it always soon started looking tatty where they use it as a scratching post & as they got larger there was not too many that stood up to the onslaught,can't remember how long we have had the tower now {you can also build that up as you can afford it}but the only thing I have done is bought a second set of bedding to go on it,first comes with it,fine getting it washed & dried when weather is good but of course when does it always get at its dirtiest...!?

I know it's an old thread - but I sold a load of junk on eBay and raised enough for a Tilly Tigga. It is massive and Sidney loves it!
i dont know the brand but the distinctive paw print in the corner seems to be the thing to look for. this picture was taken in october 2007 and i still have the big one. the bolts need tightening from time to time and some of the sisal rope needs replacing but it is going strong now. at the time it cost £140 (RRP £300) but it has more than served its purpose and proven its quality. i now want to add to it and will preferably go with the same brand although different designs
