Showing after spaying?
I've just had my 61/2 month old maine coon kitten spayed a week ago. She has a shaved patch on her side as well as small shave areas under her neck and front paw where she had pre op bloods taken etc. The hair is growing back quite quickly and I would really like to enter her into a show at the end of July. Do you get marked down if the hair hasn't quite grown back fully? She is in absolutely tip top condition other than this and I would like to get her started showing as young as possible.

I would just ask whichever "show body" you wanted to go to how this would affect her,as it is something routine I don't know if it would penalise her or not.... I had my girl done midline because of showing also luckily the anaesthetic that was used didn't involve her leg being shaven either. If you go to the site of the show you want to enter there should be the name & email address of whose running it that you could contact....good luck might catch up with you & your super girl one day.....xxx

Thanks for your positive response…I will definitely contact the show manager and ask. I didn't really think about the shaving at the time I had her spayed as I have not shown before. I never imagined it would be an issue...I think I assumed the vetting in process would be familiar and would identify her as fit and healthy despite the short hair! (It was my breeder who mentioned it may be an issue). I do find it quite sad that she could be marked down when we are encouraged as responsible pet owners to have out kittens neutered if not being used for breeding purposes. Hope to catch up with your too - we're Coonaria Miss Grace Kelly (GCCF). xxx
