    To show?

    Hi All!

I am new to this site and have spent basically the whole day reading....

I have 2 beatiful MC boys from the lovely Liz at Coontessential. She tells me that they are show quality but I have no idea where to start, who to talk to or anything!

Could anybody give me some advice on where to start?

    Many thanks in advance!

    Welcome, Jaimie and your cats.

Can't help on the show front although many of the guys on the forum will be able to

What are your MC's names? Don't forget photo's when you get a chance - if you've spent the day browsing through the threads you'll know what we're all like for a photo!

Good to have you join us.

    To show

Hi & welcome to you & your babies,I know Liz she is a friend of my breeder, also used to meet up on the show scene occasionaly.I am sure she would be pleased to give you any help that you needed or I am only an hour away. The first thing would be to look up the different show registrations & decide which you would like to try out,I can't remember who Liz registers her babes under. We have made a lot of friends on the show circuit & really enjoy our day out.
Post some pictures when you have time & who mum & dad are,I always check her site out so no doubt have seen them as very tiny tots.
Will help you if I can,I have a friend getting a persian kitten that is going to be shown so am becoming her mentor,I know the show preparation for that is going to differ slightly so that will be a new learning curve but MC's I can just about get away with...

My advice would be YES! Go for it!

There are three main registration bodies in the UK: GCCF, FIFe (Felis Britannica) and TICA. All three run shows along similar but slightly different lines. If possible, try to attend a few different shows to see which format you like the look of. I've seen Liz at TICA shows.

Here are a few useful links:

Anything that isn't clear, or any other advice please feel free to ask.

I am in a slight dilemma now, hopefully taken the right action.

I have volunteered to take photos at the Semi-Long Hair show in March as my chosen breeder, Heather, is on the committee and also judging in the pets category. I love my photography and this will be a pleasure.

Also, Heather suggested I should consider showing Leo, my red tabby, as he is looking good apparently. After much umming and aahing and worrying about splitting the boys up so soon after they come home I decided to postpose the final decision until after they have been home with me for a week or so.

Advice appreciated in terms of having three boys who have never been seperated and then taking one away to yet another strange environment a month after they come to live with me. Are MC kittens normally adaptable enough for this to not be a problem ? There will be two left at home for the day and Leo would of course be spoilt rotten for the time he is not left in a pen for judging. I expect to have someone else in the car with me to fuss over the kitten in his carrier unless he falls asleep!

I wasn't planning to show but, like others have said, "why not?" especially if the cats are not going to be caused any real stress. But we'll see how they settle in the week I am off - entry forms have to be in by the 21st which is the right timing.

Because of finances we have been taking just one of ours out on his own & leaving bruv at home with the others ,we alternate them & then occasionaly take both & it has always worked fine so I would say give it a go.....

I would give it a go Peter.
I have had two sets of boys that came to me together and only one from each pair has been shown. They cope remarkably well and I have learned with MC's that they either like showing or they don't..I would think you will know pretty quickly if they will cope and yes, lots of attention and playing with ticklers(in the pen) helps to amuse a kitten/cat out on show. You may find they spend a good while sleeping though.
The two left at home will not bother..they may pick up different smells when the show baby comes home though.
Give it a go..you may just find you become hooked.

I also take the photos for the scottish shows which are put on Cat Planet online and now in hard copy magazine format. You can send your pictures to Cat Planet to be published,...it is great to see your babies either online or in the now magazine. My babies are in this months magazine from the west of Scotland show in December. I just do pictures from my section semi long hair and send them in
We also have a face book 'maine coon breed society' page which gets results and pictures posted from countrywide shows too. Everyone loves seeing cats from around the country
    Hope that helps a bit
