    Swab results

I've just had the results back from the swabs taken and my poor kitty has calicivirus and mycoplasma felis. I knew it would either be that or herpes virus. But I'm still gutted. She was going to be my new breeding queen and i was going to show her as well. Now she will be spayed. She is such a pretty girl. But with the mycoplasma she is infectious to other cats as well. I really don't know how she has picked this up, we've had her for 12 weeks and most of that has been at the vets. Luckily she is not too bad in herself, but I could cry for her.

So sorry to read this, about Cleo, I can understand you must be devastated.

You say you have only had her 12 weeks and she has been at the vets for most of this, is it possible then that she came with this infection?

And if you think she did, then you really should chat to the breeder about it.

I am sure you will do right by Cleo, but its such a shame xx

I have an outbreak of Mycoplasma Felis in my cattery right - JustAnswer

I wouldn't rush into getting her spayed according to this.

I do agree with Debbie that you should contact the breeder, I would certainly want to know if it were one of my kittens.

Give her a big cuddle for me x

I'm by no means an expert, but whenever a disease/illness is mentioned on the forums I go and find out as much as I can about it. Forewarned is Forearmed as they say.

My understanding is that there are 2 maine types of Calicivirus. A mild one and a really nasty virulent one. The mild one is perfectly treatable and unless the cat is a carrier, it can be totally irradicated. The virulent one is far far worse :/

Thanks for all the replies. I am in contact with her breeder and she has been very supportive, so at least that is good, I think she must have had it before we bought her but neither of us would have known as she showed symptoms about 24 hours after we got her. The stress of the move made her start to shed the virus . Calci is hereditory and the vet has advised me not to breed from her. I am reading as much as I can about it, but it is nice to speak to others about it. I have heard people say cats can recover from calci Which would be great if this was the case as she got older. The mycoplasma is bacterial and she in on doxycycline, she is so good with her tablets she has them coated with her lysine and just eats them. Bless her I just love her to bits.

Yes the FAB webis site is brilliant. I've learnt such a lot from it. I can't believe that she is such a good girl taking her tablets I put the tabletsin the lysine and she licks it all up, bless her I so glad I've got her. I know all my plans have now bit the dust but I'm just glad i've got this little girl and can look after her.
