Can't Wait! Getting a White Maine Coon Kitty in Four Weeks

I have two Maine Coon girls. Bo is 7 and Scratch is 4. One is a Brown Tabby and the other is a Calico. I have also loved the Whites and am adding a 12 week old White boy in four weeks. Any advice on bringing the new kitty home would be greatly appreciated. He is a deaf kitty and I have been reading all I can about how to deal with a deaf kitty. He is just so beautiful that I couldn't resist him. Any advise on deaf cats would also be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine has a deaf cat I will ask her to join here (she might get converted to coonies). Her other cats seem to mother her. Sorry not much use.

Can't wait to see pics though. (Where's the broody smilie)

Hi there and welcome. I have a solid white maine coon, but he is hearing. Contact my good friend Louise: http://www.maine-coon-forum.info/members/leonais.html - she has two white brothers, one of whom is deaf (Mac). You can also see his page on her website: Yaheska Arctic Ice - *Leonais Maine Coons. Merlin and Mac are half brothers to my white boy Alfie. Hopefully she will be able to give you a few tips on living with a deaf cat

My odd eyed white 2 year old is deaf so I can try to answer any questions you may have. I was a little worried at first about adopting her but the only difference I really see from my hearing cats is that she doesn't come when I call her name! I don't even think of her as being deaf anymore and even talk to her! My kids do make fun of me for that though!

Molly responds to basic hand signals like come and down. I didn't "train" her, it just sort of happened naturally. When I pat my lap or the couch next to me she will come and if she is on a counter or table I'll point down and she'll jump down.

She likes visual toys, the laser pointer is her favorite!

Thanks for your response. I, too, found myself talking to the little guy when I went to visit him. I know I will continue to do it as I talk to my other two! He is just too cute for words and I am anxious to bring him home. I don't have a laser pointer and will be sure to get one before he arrives.

I guess there will not be much difference between your little chap and most male MC's, Hector I have found suffers from selective deafness when it suits him
Mummy's princess of course does not suffer from this
Walter Coonkat and MickB like this.

I think males of any species suffer from selective deafness...
