moving kittens onto adult food
Hi all, any advice appreciated. My two little darlings have been fed on RC kitten instinctive pouches and RC kitten 36 dry food plus a very small quantity of whatever I am having for dinner. I'm on a high protein diet, so this is either grilled chicken/fresh salmon or tuna. I've discovered that if I give them a little in their bowls they are happy and stop trying to steal mine! They have done really well on this diet, no stomach upsets or sickness and they look in beautiful condition. However, the time is coming to move them onto adult food and I really dont want to cause a problem - so I was thinking maybe I would move them gradually over to the adult version. Any thoughts?

Just do it. Mine started on RC Kitten and I introduced JWB kitten alongside it, but it seems to cause runny tummies. I also made available, next to the RC, Applaws (Kitten) & Orijen.
Don't suddenly replace but either mix in the same serving container or place them alongside each other for a while.

Agree with Peter the general advice is to wean them over to adult graduallybut having said that when I had my first kitten & asked what to feed it the breeder asked what my adult had & she just said he will do fine on that so he came home & went straight onto adult,the next one done exactly the same,the last two bruvs I did feed on kitten a longer,don't know why but then suddenly realised baby food was getting low so they were weaned over in about three days by mixing both together....!
Bruce has just watched me write this & he says typical he roughed it & spoilt babes as usual were brought up by the book....

I concour with the repiles above, lets be honest they are coonies, they would most likely tuck in even if it was a T bone steak.

Yep, I agree with all the above, if they want to eat adult then let them, but try to wean them over gradually to avoid upset tummies.
Nothing funnier than watching Nanuk run into the kitchen at 13 weeks old and start trying to eat the RC Maine Coon 31 our big cats eat. The kibbles were as big as his mouth so i sat and watched with baited breath..the little monkey sat there and ate about half a dozen pieces (i took about half an hour tho lol )Peter Galbavy likes this.
