HCM test - finally sent off for the kit today ...
After, thinking about it for several months and hesitating one way or another, I finally decided to send off for the swab kit today to test my 9 month Kitten for HCM. I know it doesn't change the result, but looking at him lying down looking so peaceful on the sofa - I can't bear the thought of him having a potentially shortened life if he's among the unlucky 34 percent. He's such a happy little soul. Did anyone else feel anxious when they had sent off for the kit? xx

I think the worst ones where Corrigan and Mimi....
After all that time fighting for them in court.. to finally getting them home so sick and full of disease!! to getting them healthy again and fighting fit... then that test!!
I thought OMG what if they fail all that money all that wait all that heart ache and pain and suffering...
10 days I waited.... AND
Normal!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Debbie and Jackie. Glad to know I'm not alone in my thoughts. I shall let you know Kitten's outcome.
By the way Debbie, I noticed your website and clicked through: The British Shorthair kittens are beautiful especially the fluffy blue girl. Just asked my partner if we could have a third cat, he says no. Worth a try I thought.

Hi,
No worries... I think if you truly care about your cats, even if you know in your heart that you will get a negative result you still panic, recently I sent some swabs off for some of my Abyssinians, I know that the parents are clear for PKD-PRA_PL, I have tested them but the result came back inconclusive not enough DNA....
I went through so many emotions lol ????? I sent a new swab.... NORMAL>>>. lol Langford are fantastic, they are fast and also very understanding.. they did not charge me for the second swab at all..
xx
Thanks for the compliments on the cats, the blue is a super super kitty she is so sweet and playful...xx

Just thought I'd update this thread to write that I received Kitten's HCM test this week and he came back as normal! I'm of course very relieved and pleased for him. Wishing everyone else lots of luck who is thinking of having a Maine Coon tested in the future xx
