is my 5month old maine coon or part maine coon?
Hi i have a 5month old kitten, I brought him not from a specific breeder he is a long haired ginger tom. He shows many characteristics like he is extremely vocal, he chirps, trills to get my attention, runs around chirping and he "snores" ...well more like drama queen moans when hes sleeping and i make a noise. He is ALWAYS wherever i go, if i go into another room and shut the door he will be sat outside it waiting for me and greets me with chirps and kisses, every person that comes to mine even people he does not know he is straight onto them and into everything they are doing. he has to be in on all the action. he has a huge fluffy tails mane and tufts out his paws, his ears have the hair out of them and they point, he has oval shaped light yellowy green eyes and is huge for his age he weighs in at 6lbs at the minute. he always greets me with loud chirps trills and purrs. he talks back to me if i say something too. he is also fascinated by water! all my other cats have hated water but charlie loves to play with the tap running or shower he plays with his water in his bowl and does not mind it splashing on him.
the photos of him in the bathroom and on the sofa with the pink blanket are recent the others are about a month agoLast edited by pixie; 29th September 2012 at 01:19 AM.

I'd say you got lucky and have yourself a Maine Coon. He's young yet and he may be anywhere from half to fullbred. Only thing I see unCoonie is his muzzle structure as a Coonie's muzzle tends to be very square with little taper. I cannot tell if his hair is short on his shoulders. On a Coon the hair is short on the shoulders down to the leg and gets longer going back toward the tail. Also his body conformation if he is full Coonie, he will look very rectangular from the side when standing. Its a striking difference between Coonies and a normal DLH. He certainly has the tail!!! My Khan was like that-friendly to everyone even other cats!!

He certainly has a lot of coonie features and it sounds like he behaves like one too, but there is one photo that makes me think he is more Norwegian Forest Cat and that's photo 11 (where he's laying in the doorway) the shape of his face and the short body just screams Norge to me.
Whatever he is, he's gorgeous and it sounds like you have yourself one heck of a great cat there. Congratulations.
best wishes,
Mick

It's a lovely and beautiful cat, a lot of MC characteristics are in him.
My wife found a nest of little kitten in an old barn, the mother was killed by a truck. She saved them and took one little fellow in our home.I don't know if he was a MC, he was our treasure for a lot of years.

Hi pixie, thanks so much for sharing photos and descriptions of your boy. I also think he has some Maine Coon in him, paws, tail, for sure. His face looks a bit like a cross between a MC, Norwegian Forest Cat (the almond slightly slanting eyes) and a domestic short hair (mussle) but his ways and the chirrup sound pure MC. Hope you keep sharing how he grows up and more of his endearing ways. And in terms of weight I think my boy was only a couple of pounds heavier at a month older and now at twenty one months he's just over eighteen pounds so your boy still has plenty of time to grow x
