Electra ate a twist tie!
Electra managed to un-twist a twist tie and eat it.
My partner saw her fooling around with a twist tie that held a little gate open. A moment later the tie was un-done and the gate snapped shut. She put a second twist tie on the gate, and Electra was un-doing that one a minute later. She took the twist tie from Electra but didn't find the first one.
She didn't know Electra had eaten the first one. She looked for it and couldn't find it.
When I got home she told me the story. Electra was fine, doing the Kitten Gallop and eating heartily.
This morning she was subdued, no Morning Gallop and wouldn't eat. Bad sign, we thought.
To the vet's.
The twist tie is arrowed in the picture. Fortunately, it has passed into her colon, past the point of maximum danger. Electra is now galloping around again, eating heartily (she has gained a bit over a pound in four weeks). We now have only to, uh, inspect for the emergence of the twist tie.
Who knew a kitten could un-twist a twist tie and then find it appealing as something to eat? The dexterity involved in taking the tie off of the structural application we were using it for is just amazing.
The twist-tie gate opener has been replaced by a wide nylon strap she could chew on for years without getting through.

heehee - lill monkey!
My Pirate ate my phone .... well not whole - I had a (rather expensive) headset I use for work, with a very tempting bit we used to call "the microphone". Pirate obviously called it "the fun thing we can eat". I didn't realize before it actually passed through... you know...
Also, I sleep with foam earplugs (husband snores ever-so-slightly) which I used to leave unattended under my pillow every morning. I stopped doing that, they kept disappearing and reappearing in kitty litter, lightly coated in something brown and stinky.
I feed her, I promise!!!

Poor you & poor Electra & good luck with the poo watch. We had to do the same thing with Shimba & ribbon when he was a babe,I had taken the ribbon off of a chockie box & before I could do anything he had lept up & it was gone, couldn't believe it of him as he was not even a greedy eater,I had visions of it wrapping up going through his intestines ,I took him up to work where the boss said everything felt as if it was going through ok,of course an xray wouldn't have helped in this case, what an awful few days that was,he never went off his food like Electra but was I a happy mum the night OH shouted gift parcel ready wrapped has been delivered, have to be honest I sat & cried.....

Dicky *loves* cotton buds (Q-tips). He ate one when I missed picking up a dropped on. I didn't realise until there was a "chocolate lollipop" in the litter tray. Lucky that it went through.

Dental floss is Blue's "string" of choice. We found him opening the cabinet door, knocking over the waste bin and searching for floss. He had it in his mouth when we found him. We were terrified that he actually ate some (thankfully "no"). We now resort to flossing and putting floss in a small bag in the litter genie (2 times/day). We try to "coordinate" our flossing habit just so we can dispose of the floss in one bag. These guys are way too smart for their own good!
BTW -- Blue also loves the cotton buds!

Electra's second x-ray, a week ago, showed that the twist tie had... disappeared. We never found it in the litter box, it was just gone.
Whatever happened to it cannot have been bad for her. She has gained half a pound in two weeks and she is as busy as ever. Thanks for the encouragement.
