Drinking From The Toilet...Uh...Not Me, The Cat
Donnad, I noticed in your picture gallery you snapped some shots of your MC with head in toilet. Ran-Gan does this also, drinking from there even tho' we leave water for the cats down at floor level in a bowl. Is this common with these cats?
We have to be careful to leave the lid closed otherwise he's in there slaking his thirst.

whyemier,
Miss Ginger is not drinking from the toilet, she is investigating the new hole in her litter kwitter. I am toilet training her!!! well that's the idea anyways. Haha. I have been training her for about a month now. See the thread Litter knitter. Although I am sure drinking out of the toilet is not harmful. My beagles will every chance they get. It just grosses us out. Thank you for looking at my pictures. I love this little monster!
p.s. I am glad it's not you! ;)Last edited by donnad; 12th May 2013 at 02:44 PM.

I did read threads on the forum about members maine coons drinking out of the toilets though, when I joined :-D though Neevie doesn't do it - we actually close the toilet lid so it wouldn't happen, because she's a licker... means when we're having a cuddle, I get my hands thoroughly licked clean - now, I know it's a bit hypocritic because I know she tends to clean very dirty parts of her own body with that tongue, but I don't think I would like thought of that tongue having been in my toilets as well.... gotta draw the line somewhere...

Alekto, you have a point, I think most animals will choose fresh cold water over warm water in their dishes. I too, kept my toilets lids closed until I started potty training Ginger plus we have a gate on the bathroom door that just allows Ginger through not the Beagles. I would love to buy the "kids" one of them awesome waterfall bowls but they are over a hundred dollars! I can not justify that kind of money for a water bowl.

I got her this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Mate-060...s=fountain+cat about a year ago.... but she wasn't really impressed at the time - she sniffed it carefully before concluding that this one one of those humanz things holding no interest whatsoever - now that she's learned that drinking from the tap is really interesting (apparently...) we might reinstal the thing.

Good luck everyone with the fountains.......
Several of our MC's loved drinking from a running tap,one even used to be able to turn taps on until we changed them so thought we would buy a fountain, the first one was a drinkwell ,they loved it,water chilled & flowing & we had it for a few years until the day finally came when the servant got fed up mopping the floor where they sat & swiped their paws through it flooding everywhere,it was a daily battle mopping the floor would just get it dry from one when another had a go & wet paw prints on clean bedding & across places where they shouldn't go finally tipped the balance so back to water bowls, which in turn got paddled in & tipped over then saw the catit fountain, brilliant water came down over a dome into a bowl & although they put their paw on the dome they didn't splash it all over so much so peace reigned amoung furries & mum until two certain brothers joined the household & one of them discovered the joys of laying with two front paws locked firmly around the dome to drink, of course when he moved away there was a soaking dripping bib trailing everywhere, guess what,we are now back to heavy drinking bowls again...... !!!!

My Teddy drinks from the loo ! Not because I like him to, he has just figured every lock out that I have put on it !!! lol And to be honest I have tried a few but he is so strong he just breaks them, so I thought lets go to the major problem the loo door, so I put on an oldfashioned cast iron latch, thought that will sort you out...............nope..............so lets put a gate up at the door, you know one of those tall baby gates,............omg he pulled it of the blooming door frame,...............not a happy mummy that day for sure !! lol he does weigh in at seventeen and a half stone so when he wants something he usually gets there !!! lmao I still put water out for him but he completely ignores it !!! lol Drinking from the wash hand basin tap is also his other source of water !
From reading all your posts I think I will opt for the heavy drinking bowl for Dylan when he arrives !!! lolChris X
