Ever had your cats lose flies in their paw fur?
My Maine Coon Roxy's paws are so padded with long fur on the bottom, that I've actually seen her pounce on a fly but instead of this killing the fly, it got caught in her paw pad fur and when she picked her paw up again, it flew away out of her paw fur, unharmed! Sometimes she tries to kill flies but her paws are so soft and padded that she just keeps swatting them and it doesn't do them any harm because of all the fur muffling her feet.

I bet Roxy will work it out like our China RIP did,she would open out her paw thack it over the fly then fist her paw up & gently open up between each claw one by one,she would put her nose/mouth right in & nibble & if she had no joy then she would move onto the next one until she found a nice crunchy morsel caught in there, Merlyn RIP used to watch, he had the same problem as Roxy & the flies used to just up & go after having a dust over but Merl watched China & got the idea of opening the paw but bless him he didn't ever catch on to fisting his paw up to trap it so he would get it but keep his paw wide open & the fly would once again say thank you, bye, his poor face especially if ole China then turned round caught it & proceed to enjoy letting him now what he had missed out on......!

heehee! we don't have many flies here strangely enough, for all we're in the middle of the fields so we should... We assume that they are to afraid of the Mighty Hunter to come close. She sees, she swats, she gobs. She then licks her moustache with a very satisfied face and goes to her business like nothing happened...

Ha ha! The Pirate sounds like quite the character I love that nonchalant, "Nothing to see here, move along", attitude the kitties get. Especially after either a particularly masterful 'hunt' or a particularly crazed almost cirque du soleil performance prior to actually deigning to touch the offending insect.

Frazer is at the moment perfecting his fly catching skills ! He has managed to catch a couple ! I am hoping he qualifies to spiders soon, that will save me so many frightening experiences !!! lol
