Geting skinny
Hi everybody,
We have a roughly 11 (I think) year old indoor male coon named Blizzard, we rescued him. At one point he was 24 lbs. He eats wet & dry food but he has lost weight and I feel his spine. He is happy and never misses a meal. Is there something I can give him to put some weight back on him before going to the vet? I guess he is not getting the nutrition he needs. Thank you. Brian.

Other than the usual basic things such as worming him you could try him on some senior food,if he has an annual booster soon due then worth trying but being the age he is it could be the onset of other problems such as kidneys/thyroid etc which the sooner diagnosed then better the prognosis so if he was mine wouldn't leave it too long to get him vet checked just in case, hopefully would be a wasted trip but........!!!!! x

yes, I was going to say, I would take him to the vet - ask them to check also for hyper-thyroidism - my late cat had that condition... :-(

Sounds like thyroid to me, my mom's old Coonie had it. At 11 years old I'd definitely have a full checkup done, and also have them check his teeth and get a cleaning if he hasn't had one. Our senior Coon Merlin was a rescue who had dropped to 6lbs and his teeth were hideously abscessed. My mom's other cat, an Angora, has bad teeth and already had two extractions and more on the way, so watch if your cat is dropping bits of food or not chewing properly. You may think he's eating enough but he may not be. Good luck with everything, let us know what the vet says!

Thank you for all of the quick replies. He did have teeth removed two years ago. Also, he is due for his shots in a few weeks so I will bring him up then.
