I've tried putting anther flavour down that i know he likes but he then does exactly same and scratches floor again? I'm really confused as he looks at me like i should know what this means???

Hya,
There are 2 feasable trains of thought on this one as far as i'm aware.
The first is that he's trying to "bury" his food from other cats, and the second is that he's using the scent glands in his paws to stake a claim on the food.
I've found newly weaned kittens do this a lot, probably because there are the siblings around who also want the food.
I guess the real answer is nobody knows for sure, but these two explanations seem very good to me
Hope this helps.
Mick

he's deffinatly alright with his age and eating esp when its tuna lol
Ithink MickB may be right your theory on claiming his stake on his food fits perfectly now i think bout it, we have 2 other kittens each from different litters we've rescued and they never go near the section on the plate that is alvins were he scratched even thou they all share same plate.
thanks

Perhaps you could try splitting the food so that each kitten has his or her own plate. Alvin may not want to share with the others just yet.
