    Microchip advice

    Hi everyone

My girl Mandy is not microchipped and I need to do this soon, as I need to apply for her passport, in order to return to live in the UK.

Am a bit overprotective maybe - but - I have heard that the procedure is quite painful. I'd love to hear from someone who has had their kitty chipped, in order to put my mind at ease!

    Thanks a lot!

hi Fiona - I had my Neevie and a little 2 months old kitten chipped in the past 2 years.
The needle the chip is implanted with looks impressive - the first time I saw it I though there's no way that's going through - but strangely it doesn't seem to hurt them much - Neevie didn't make a sound, though she did try to escape when the Vet grabbed her but that's a reflex for her, the little one squeeled a little bit but it was more akin to "hey what are you doing" rather than "aw aw aw aw aw!" - they don't like it, but it's over very fast and then it's done.
I hope this puts your mind at rest?
where are you coming back from?

Hi Fiona F for some reason felines seem to not object to it at all they are very stoic & some just sit & purr while the vet is doing it.... yes the needle is quite a size especially compared to normal syringe needles but even if it does hurt for a couple of seconds {which is all it is unless you are a male canine then of course it has to take to its bed} the benefits of a microchip make it all worth while especially if ever the animal goes astray,we have reunited owners with their pets through the chip, some have been missing a while & several were a long long way away from us,one owner we traced was not even in this country, they were just so pleased to know that their cat was safe & had a loving home again & thats where it still is but how the heck did it get over here....? Thats when you are so pleased it was microchipped.....
As a matter of inteerst all canines by law will have to be microchipped in a couple of years time think they should have taken it further for felines as we.......
Let us know how she gets on.....don't let me down Mandy.....xxx

    Hi Alekto

Thanks so much for this advice. Am returning from Southern Ireland and can't wait!! Mandy was actually born in England, so she'll be returning to her roots!!

Aw thanks so much for that. I know how important it is to get it done, I reckon I'll be worse than Mandy on the day and she probably (hopefully) won't notice!!

    Will let you know.
