Am I just old fashioned
Yep ! me again ! lol
I got an invitation to a wedding today, my friends daughter is getting married in June. So I thought lovely a chance for me to get all dressed up (i dont usually do dressing up ! lol) So I called and was asking all the usual questions, whats her dress like, and how many people are going, and I hope she has good weather....................you know the usual things, then I just about fell of the couch when she told me what they were having to eat................rolls on bacon, rolls on sausage and for the vegetarians rolls on scrambled egg !!!! Now tell me if its just me (feel free to do so, please ! lol) but dont you usually have a meal at a wedding ! Sarah had a meal for everyone who came, with aperitif's before hand, plus the wine and everything it was a long day afterall and there was a buffet at night to for everyone. Oh and I was told they dont want a present, just money so they can go on honeymoon ! Is it just me ? I would have disowned Sarah if she had dared as money for presents, infact she didnt even have a wedding list ! Oh it is me isnt it, I am old fashioned ! I really wanted to say if they cant afford to feed people properly or go a honeymoon of their own back then save up for another year and do it right !! After all they have lived together for 4 years outwith the sanctity of marraige what difference is another year going to make !!! I didnt say that, just thought it................I thought I was modern but I guess there are some things that I consider established !! lol
Go on give me a row, tell me to get with it ! I just cant get to grips with it..............................i'm in shock !!! lol
What do you think people ?Chris X

well, my sister is planning to get married in France next year with her boyfriend of more than 10 years - she wants a "bohemian" wedding - in a field or something, people come if they want to (they'll be invited but probably by e-mail or phone, knowing her love for the post office) - there will be a few muttons roasting, people will just help themselves - I don't think she'll put a wedding list in either, I think she'll just tell people not to bring anything, which will probably result in the accumulation of a few toasters to be kept for the years to come... Just as well, because they already have 2 kids, and they'll need toasters when they go to university... There might be a bit of fun around a big fire at the end of the day.
I think it's fiiiine, it's their day, they celebrate it as they want to. It's more about the couple, people come to see them, congratulate and celebrate with them in the fashion they like.... HOWWWWEVER.... rolls... THAT, I disagree with... But just because I think that's an insult to food...

Alekto I like the sound of your sisters wedding, a nice field with lots of people and spits, big fire etc, that sounds so much fun, (you have to take lots of pictures and let us see !)
I have to say I gracefully bow to your note that it is their day and they should have it exactly as they want ! I consider myself suitably chastised !! lol See sometimes it is wise to throw things out there to get perspective !!! lol But I am so glad that you agree about the rolls !!! lol
Thanks so much for posting Alekto I really do appreciate it, I hope your sisters wedding goes well and if there are any spare invites ............. !!! lol xChris X

I have to say, I can't wait also ;-) but it's only next year, and that is if they don't decide to start a new little one in the meantime (that's what stopped it the last time)
rolls are just weird...
yup, they'll be coming to you all ... by way of the forum, as per my sister's "new tradition"

Hi, not quite sure what rolls on bacon, rolls on sausage and for the vegetarians rolls on scrambled egg, I don't even know what that means? are they have sausage on rolls, bacon on rolls and scrambled eggs on rolls? That does sound a little odd. I once went to a wedding years ago, the bride wore a beautiful gown , bridesmaids the whole shebang! The served beans and rolls at the reception! I was floored, needless to say everyone had to go out to eat. My daughter was just married last June on a limited budget. Her and her hubby, made the wedding invitations themselves. We reserved a flower garden for the nuptials and had the reception at the adjoining park pavilion. We had the reception catered by a local restaurant. They served chicken breast, brats and hamburgers along with potato salad and fresh fruit. Everything was bbq on site, it was really good and inexpensive ($10 per plate). The pavilion is on a lake, we had a nice hot day and a nice breeze coming off the lake. As both the bride and groom just graduated from college, she wanted money too. I was not having any of that! My daughter registered at local stores and let the guests bring what they could. Fun was had by all.

Thanks for posting Donna, let me try to explain the 'rolls'. Its like a round slice of bread only thick, you can cut it in half and put a filling inside hence the bacon, or sausage or scrambled eggs ! oh i hope i have explained that properly. I can totally understand that you would have to go out for a meal if all you were being served was beans and rolls, I have booked a meal for Sarah, Glen, Brooke and myself at a local hotel on the day of the wedding, especially since we are going to be there all day.
Aw your daughters wedding looks beautiful and the catering firm they had certainly didnt let you down thats for sure, it shows if you look in the right places it can be done. By the lake sounds perfect and so glad that she had nice weather for it, it makes all the difference. Nice to hear that everyone really enjoyed themselves.
I'm with you about the asking for money thing...............just a complete no no for me to. Your daughters approach was much more sensible and I am sure she was over the moon with the presents that she recieved.
Thanks Donna for making me feel that it isnt just my old fashioned ideas, I was feeling a bit worried about how I felt. I guess that my victorian upbringing was showing to much !!! lol
Thanks for posting, it was nice to see your daughters wedding picture, just lovely xChris X
