If I do not want to jinx myself, I knock on wood. My hubby never lets me put new shoes on the table, it is bad luck! Something his mom taught him. hahaha I am sure there is more if I thought about it
Find a penny, pick it up, the rest of the day you have good luck!
P S what is a magpie? I think a bird but?

You are right donnad it is a bird.......
I am a find a penny person but otherwise not too bad on superstitions, won't go under a ladder but only because if they tip the bucket at that point I don't want to have to come home & change & as for Mr Magpie had never heard that one until we started traveling to shows with a friend & all the way there we kept hearing " Good morning Mr Magpie & how is your good wife today"'so asked her what it was all about & she said it was bad luck if your saw a single magpie & didn't ask him about the wife.....perhaps that's why her cats do a lot better than mine had better start the chanting.....!

Donna I touch wood for luck to ! And I have heard of the 'no new shoes on the table' As jckkerrison says the old Magpie rhyme goes ........
one for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told !
So if you see a single magpie and you dont want sorrow you have to address him. I think there are a few ways like jckkerrison says as well as saying Good morning Mr Magpie how are you today ? I am really sad because I get so excited when I see two of them together !!! lol
Thanks for posting Donna, nice to know superstitions travel well !!! lmaoChris X

jckkerrison you are a more practical person then, solid good sense head on those shoulders !!! lol The magpie thing must be a UK thing, and I get so annoyed when I see one to !! its a pity because they are lovely birds albeit thieves !!! lol My luck must be pretty bad, I never find a penny !!! lmao I think you have to pass it on for luck dont you ? My mother was not in the least superstitious nor dad so I dont know where I get my paranoia from !!! lol
Thanks for posting, and good luck with the chanting !!! lolChris X
