I have been wondering.....................
why do cats like fish ? Frazer is now very used to getting salmond, mackrel, and the occasional piece of lobster and he loves them all dont get me wrong, he wolfs down the who lot ! but why ? cats in the wild eat wild meat, zebra, antelope, even wild buffalo they dont go out fishing ! lol Have we manufactured the domestic cat ? well lets face it you dont get domestic pedigree breeds in the wild, cant imagine coming across a blue persian on an african safari !!! lol
I know the Tiger will willingly go into water for example but not specifically to catch fish, anyone any ideas on why fish loving domestic cats ?Chris X

Chris, That is very interesting.... Ginger likes chunky chicken Science Diet, she does not like the tuna or the ocean perch ones. She absolutely hates the pate' style. So, I am not sure why some cats like fish and others do not, maybe the smell gives them a appetite, like us smelling meat in the oven? I think they are as picky as we are

I asked Neevie, she said Fish are shiny and fun to catch! But chickenz are better to eat. She also says she is not fond of carrots, and beans are yukky.

Mischa does not like pâté style either....in fact she is not too keen on meat, we have tried every type of food there is and she seems to prefer the 'Gourmet' (just as long as it is not the pâté) lol

Donna Frazer likes chicken to but for some inexplicable reason he loves the fish I cook for him, well steam for him and it goes right through the house when it is cooking so doesnt matter where he is suddenly he is at my feet when I start putting it in a bowl for him !! lol I havent tried him with pate yet but no doubt will give it a try at some point ! It is so handy having a Chef for a son-in-law he brings the fish and lobster home for Frazer !! lol

Cats eat by smell thats why if they have stuffy blocked up noses they go off their food so quickly, we used to tell people to get the smelliest cat food they can, even heat it through it it helps to try & kick start them again so I suppose thinking about when you open something in the domestic situation the one that hits you the most is the fishy types....... Out in the wild you would assume nature kicks in & nature tells them that the things they prey & catch are good for them but as you say Chris going fishing wouldn't be natural but birds & mice caught fresh just have to be yummy,so pleased that I have furries that have to rely on my tin opener but think they might go for the lobster too Chris......xxx
